Scabies is produced by some tiny mites, it is very contagious and transmitted by close contact as skin to skin. Scabies mites can be found under the skin where lays eggs, the skin’s reaction is in producing pimples, skin irritations to the presence of eggs, larvae, feces of scabies.

Symptoms:

The most obvious symptom is skin itching especially during the night, the skin is rashly and full of blisters. In babies and small children the rash may appear on face, scalp or soles of the feet. If it’s a primary infection the symptoms will appear only after a few weeks, but if the person has been previously infested with scabies the symptoms appear in few days.

The skin may be crusted and red because of the scratching. The eggs may be spread during the scratching or may extend the infection to nails and fingers.

Other affected areas are: abdomen, genitalia, buttocks, nipples, wrist, elbows, armpits, between the toes and fingers. The contamination is possible through clothing, bedding, by shaking hands with an infected person, by sexual contact so scabies can easily spread to all members of a family or in population.

Scabies infects only humans and can survive only for 1-4 days out of the human body. Pets do not have scabies. It is important to treat scabies because is a highly contagious disease and may be very easily transmitted to other persons with whom you come in contact even if it is a short one for example a hand shaking.

Scabies treatment
The treatment should be applied to every person that lives in close contact with an infested one, any person who might have been infested, but has no symptoms yet, it is also important to prevent re-infestation. Your doctor can prescribe you the most adequate treatment and may identify scabies from other infectious diseases that affect the skin. Do not delay in presenting to the doctor, because scabies is highly contagious and it may take a while to get rid of it, its symptoms may be disturbing.

To kill all the mite and its eggs it is recommended to wash the bedding and the clothing in hot water and to iron them often. Dexoprin is the most effective and safe drug for the scabies infection.
