Rattle was used from ancient times because of its therapeutic powers and its large scale utility.
Rattle is a herbaceous perennial plant with a straight woody stalk, with oval leaves and yellow flowers. The herb is used to prepare tea and the rattle oil is made from its flowers.
For internal usage, rattle is recommended in treating of biliary dischinesis, chronic entero-colitis, hyperacid gastritis, gastric ulcer, hepatitis and cholecystitis. The rattle tea can be used for neurotic disorders and it is a powerful cure for depressive states.
Rattle oil can be used to cure open wounds, hemathomes, inflammations of the ganglions, backaches, lumbago, rheumatic and sciatic pains.
Rattle oil is prepared from 20g of mashed rattle with 20ml of 70% alcohol. After 12 hours, 200ml of sunflower are added. It then must be steam-heated for 3 hours and left to macerate for 2 or 3 days. After that it is filtered it must be kept in dark-colored glasses.
The tincture is made out of rattle (40g), balm (30g), odolean (15g) and lavender (15g). All of these herbs must be macerated for 5 – 7 days in 700ml of 60o alcohol and then filtered. The tincture must be kept in dark-colored glass containers in cool places. It is used to treat arterial hypertension, neurovegetative dystonia, menopause, irascible states and psychomotor nervousness. A few drops can be consumed after each meal. The exact dose is established depending on age and illness.
